Hallowe'en Dress Up
Hallowe'en Art
The junior class room did some spooktacular art with Ms. Geraghty. They were so spooky. Their spooky ghosts were very fun to make. They printed out ghosts and then they stuck tissue paper onto the ghosts .They scared us when we walked in the door. The following Friday they made pumpkins. They cut, coloured and painted the pumpkins. They were so scary. They coloured the eyes black and their mouths either black or yellow. They also cut them out when they finished painting and coloured the pumpkins. They also made some spooky spiders. The whole school is looking very spooky. WOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Orchestra - Music Workshop
On the 17th of October the fourth, fifth and sixth classes of Knockroon and Cross national schools got together to form an Orchestra. The instruments that were played were the cello, the flutes, the clarinet, the violin and the viola. Sorcha played the keyboard and every class presented and performed a piece. The pieces that were performed were “Daydreaming” for the sixth class, “Knickerbocker Glory” for the fifth class and “Goldfish Bowl” for the fourth class. Then everybody played ”Fiannia”, “Chinese Street Festival”, “Amazing Grace” and “My Bonnie lies over the Ocean” together.
The teachers of both schools were very proud of all the students. Then we talked about some of the instruments and because of all of our hard work we got treat bags. It seemed like Hallowe’en came early! It was great fun and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was exciting to be in an orchestra for a day!

A visit from P.C.H.
Ms. McAlpine and one of the schools secretary’s Bernie Creaven came to our school from Presentation College Headford. They spoke to sixth class about the choice of subjects the school offered and all the sports the school has. A subject sample day will be held on the 8th of November for the sixth class to try out the new interesting subjects such as German, Home Economics and Business. P.C.H. will hold an open day on the 13th of November for the parents of the sixth class to get a tour of the school and help sixth class choose their subjects.
Tremendous Tomatoes
We sowed tomato seeds last May. Look at our bumper crop now in October.
Maths Week
We did all sorts of maths work during Maths Week. We did “Dan the Detective” and “The Three Monkeys” and we had all sorts of puzzles to figure out. The Junior Room did sorting, matching, patterns, construction and counting games. They also did maths games using dice, counters and maths board games. The Second and Third classes did a Maths trail, Problem of the Week, online maths and really hard mental maths games. They also did maths problems for the whole school. Fourth, Fifth and Sixth classes did some maths activities like maths games, board games, online maths problems and maths stations.
The Young King
The children from Ms. Muldoon’s and Mr. Bourke’s classrooms had a truly magical experience in the Linenhall Theatre, Castlebar. They thoroughly enjoyed Slingsy Theatre’s performance of Oscar Wilde’s “The Young King”.
Seashore Safari
The Senior Room took part in a “Seashore Safari” at Grattan Beach. We found lots of interesting sea creatures including starfish and crabs.
