We went to the Mini Sevens on Friday. Biggins’ bus collected us at 9.30 am to bring us to Kilmaine. The girls’ first match was at 10 o’ clock against Kilmaine. It was a tough match but we played our best. Unfortunately we didn’t win. We were disappointed to have lost so we decided to support the lads who got to the final but sadly lost also. A few of the boys couldn’t play as they were too old. The boys beat Cong and Cloonliffen on the way to the final which was against St. Joseph’s, Ballinrobe. The boys were beaten by a team from a much bigger school than ours. The ref was very fair. It was nice to meet the children from other schools.
On Thursday we went to the county final in Cross Country. We had three runners from our school who had progressed from the South Mayo final. We had to be at school early as we were going to Ballina. We went on the bus with Cong N.S. Cliodhna ran in the first race and ran superbly. She was really happy with her performance. Luke and Tom ran in the next races and they were very happy with how they ran. It was really fun and a good competition. Ms. Presnail came with us and she encouraged us to do her best. Unfortunately we had to miss the school mass as it was on Thursday also.
It was the mass for the beginning of the school year on Thursday morning in Cross church at 9.30am. Everyone had to leave their bags at the front door or in the shelter. The children that were reading prayers sat in the front seat. We sang “This is the Day” “Your love’s Greater” and " Siúl sa Ghrá”. Everybody did very well and behaved excellently. We all walked back to the school safely, making sure we wore our Hi-Viz vests.
