Community Games Success
On the 18th of August, the Cong Community Games under 12 girls went to UL to compete in the Community Games All Ireland semi-final after battling through the county and Connaught finals.
Firstly we played Charlestown in Kiltimagh. We had a great few balls over the bar and in the back of the net. The game went to extra time which we won. We had a lovely medal presentation. We made our way home to some bonfires and a homecoming.
The day we played the Connaught semi-final and final our venue was in Ballinasloe GAA. We had a hard match against Riverstown, Co. Sligo and we won by a point. Then we had another hard battle against Galway and won in extra time by a goal and 2 points. We went home to more bonfires.
On August 18th, we togged out and headed to the pitch and started warming up. We had our first match against Cork. We had a few great few balls in our hands, over the bar and in the back of the net. Sadly we lost, but we didn’t give up. We fought through the play-offs against Meath and won that by a point. Then we came home and had a nice homecoming, there were great celebrations in Cross with bonfires and a big party.

Cross Country
This week pupils from 2nd to 6th around the hinterland of Ballinrobe took part in a gruelling Cross-Country event held at Ballinrobe Racecourse. Around 20 schools arrived at the venue rearing to go and eager to do their schools proud even if it meant running in the pouring rain! First off, the boys from 3th and 4th tried their luck in their race. Although they tried their best, it was a very challenging competition with around 200 children in the race. In the next race though, it was a very different story with Cliona Meenaghan securing an easily won 2nd place. Our other medal of the day was won by Keira Lydon in 8th place. The rest of the day passed without any other massive victories though everyone tried their absolute best running alongside very tough competition. Well done everyone who participated. It was an exciting and competitive day!
Violin Lessons
This week we had the first violin lessons of the school year with our teacher Sorcha Walsh. Last year everybody had a lot of fun doing violin and practising for our recital at the end of the year. The recital went really well, nearly fifty parents attended and everybody got a chance to show off all the skills they learned throughout the year. This year some of the fifth and sixth class students will have a chance to take their grade exams in May. Violin lessons will continue every Tuesday.
Fun Friends
Every Thursday juniors, seniors and first class take part in the Fun Friends programme with Ms. Geraghty and Ms. Sice. It helps them understand the meaning of friendship while building resilience and reminding them that everyone can try their best.
They all gather round in a circle saying and doing fun things. This week they discussed their families and they also drew very colourful pictures of their families. They also met a very shy monkey who is learning to be brave. Everyone got a treat at the end of the session.
They have homework to do every week but the homework is great fun as it involves doing fun things with their families without the use of technology.
